he Hawai'i Small Business Development Center (HISBDC), O'ahu Office, is supporting the first annual National Small Business Week events because it creates opportunities for O'ahu small businesses to acquire valuable contacts and information on improving their performance. This aligns with the Hawai'i SBDC mission of addressing the needs of business in order to positively impact the economy with job creation, capital infusion and increased sales revenue.
O'ahu breaks ground this year to embrace the greater National Small Business Week(*) with a program of educational events similar to those hosted by larger cities. This first ever O'ahu Small Business Week (O'ahu SBW) will count with top notch guest presenters and business subject-matter experts from Hawai'i and California.
With the collaboration of Hawai'i Small Business Development Center (HI SBDC) and Maui Small Business Week (Maui SBW), O'ahu joins the National Small Business Week(*) celebration by offering four days of free, educational events to benefit local entrepreneurs and small businesses owners and managers.
(*)Every year since 1963, the US president has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners through award ceremonies. In 2014, proclamation by President Obama stated, "I call upon all Americans to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the competitiveness of the American economy with appropriate programs and activities." Nationwide, business award ceremonies and free educational events are usually scheduled during the second week of May.
In larger cities, SBW offers an intense program of award and educational events, which also include sponsored parties to boost the SBW message: "We celebrate small businesses that fuel America’s economic innovation and prosperity." In smaller cities, the SBA offers webinars in place of live events. In the Aloha State, the SBA Hawai‘i District celebrates SBW with award ceremonies on each of the islands with Maui standing out by also offering a complete 5-day educational events since 2014. With O'ahu joining in this year, t he National Small Business Week (NSBW) is set to become much bigger in the State of Hawai'i.
