2017 O'ahu Small Business Week is coming up. To surpass the 2016 and 2015 ones, the planning for the 3rd edition has already started (May 24, 2016.)
O'ahu embraced the greater National Small Business Week(*) in 2015 with a program of educational events similar to those hosted by larger cities.
(*)Every year since 1963, the US president has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners through award ceremonies. In 2014, proclamation by President Obama stated, "I call upon all Americans to recognize the contributions of small businesses to the competitiveness of the American economy with appropriate programs and activities." Nationwide, business award ceremonies and free educational events are usually scheduled during the second week of May.
In larger cities, SBW offers an intense program of award and educational events, which also include sponsored parties to boost the SBW message: "We celebrate small businesses that fuel America’s economic innovation and prosperity." In smaller cities, the SBA offers webinars in place of live events. In the Aloha State, the SBA Hawai‘i District celebrates SBW with award ceremonies on each of the islands with Maui standing out by also offering a complete 5-day educational events since 2014. In 2015, O'ahu joined Maui to make the National Small Business Week (NSBW) much bigger in the State of Hawai'i.
